Stephen Park is returning to Norwegian Cruise Line in the UK with the promotion of Francis Riley to a Miami-based role.

Park will become UK general manager of the line from September 3, moving back to the company after two years as senior vice president of European sales for Kerzner International.

He will report to Riley who takes the newly created position of vice-president of international business development.

Riley moves to the company’s headquarters after two years as general manager of NCL’s UK office. He originally joined as sales director in 2004 and will report to Andy Stuart, executive vice-president of sales, marketing and passenger services.

In his new role, Riley will be responsible for business development outside of the US and Canada, including the company’s offices in the UK and Continental Europe.ÂÂ

The position has been created to continue NCL’s rapid expansion outside North America, which will accelerate in 2008 with the first ever dedicated sailings from the UK out of Southampton with Norwegian Jade and the largest NCL European deployment ever.

Stuart said: “International business has become and will continue to be increasingly important for us as we expand our European-based capacity. It gives me great pleasure to promote Francis into this new role, which will bring increased focus to this important segment of our business.ÂÂ

“I am also pleased to welcome Stephen back to NCL. In 2008, we are dedicating a number of sailings of Norwegian Jade to the UK market so Stephen returns at a pivotal time as we expect to move into the fastest period of UK growth in the company’s history.”ÂÂ

Riley said: “I’m personally delighted to welcome Stephen back at this very exciting time in our development. Stephen’s knowledge of the business means he can step right back into the driver’s seat.”

We had a fairly important meeting scheduled at one of our hospitals today and I decided to attend.

With all this in mind, I stayed in bed and snoozed until diana and the kids got home around 1000. I ate breakfast and took a shower, then got dressed in my modified scrubs. Much like the gym shorts and the boxers, these have the right leg cut off just above the knee and the seams on the outside of the leg replaced with Velcro. Diana also moved the drawstring over to the right side. With that, a t-shirt, a scrub top, socks on both feet and a sneaker on the left foot, I was ready to go. I brought my ID to ensure that no one thought I was an escaping ortho patient.

Diana dropped me at the front of the hospital where we quickly snagged a wheelchair. Jenn met us there and took my walker and my handicap parking permit in her car so she could get a decent space. (Jenn was my ride home, so her use of the tag was legitimate.) We met the others in the lobby and went up to the conference room.

I deliberately have not named the hospital because of my feelings about the meeting. To put it bluntly, it was miserable. There were roughly 20 of us crammed into a small conference room and it was clear that they were not interested in hearing from those of us who knew the most about the procedure in question, preferring to (by one doc’s own admission) make up their own protocol. The meeting lasted more than two hours and in the end, I’m still not sure things are properly resolved.  I suspect that the first time we use this protocol we will have a lot of complaints and arguments, even from people who were there today. But that’s life, I suppose.

A hospital transport wheelchair is not meant for a two-hour sitting session (custom-built wheelchairs for paraplegics and quadraplegics, on the other hand, are designed for long stays). By the end of the meeting, my butt was begging for mercy. Jenn wheeled me out to the hospital main entrance where we discovered that a Phoenix windstorm was in progress. She pulled the car up, left her door ajar, opened my door, and the resulting wind blew my prized handicap tag out her door and across the parking lot. Despite best efforts on her part, even with the assistance of a hospital security guard, the tag was not recovered; I will have to get a new one from the MVD office on Thursday.ÂÂ

The return trip home was slow as it was around 1600 and even the HOV lane was full. I finally got home around 1645 and went in to take a nap with the CPM machine. I ended up answering email and voicemail, though, and not getting any extra sleep. Diana came in around 1900 to ask if I wanted dinner and I agreed, so I moved out to the couch and had some excellent pork chops (again from Entrees Made Easy). After that, the kids went to bed, we watched the news, and that was it.

No more trips planned until Thursday. I can use the rest!

Today was a wash-out… I contracted a major migraine headache mid-morning and ultimately came home from work early and slept 4-hours. When I get migraines, which only happens once every couple of months, the only thing that helps me is sleep. It was the best sleep I’ve had in several weeks.

I am off to Chicago tomorrow through Friday. My tentative agenda is as follows:

Tuesday: Travel, Work in hotel room, hopefully a nice long walk

Wednesday: Several PR events and interviews with the press (we have launched a new product that is pretty cool…)

Thursday: Conference event. A number of side meetings with clients and partners

Friday: Leaving for home mid-day.

From my team Laila, Mike and Tony will be at the event as well. Most of my time will be spent with Tony is coordinating all of the PR matters.

So, I have been playing with design, website function, etc. and I plan to post on that shortly. I’m trying to find my way on that topic…

The last 3 days however have been spent with my good friends at Hogwarts…

Suffice to say this is the best book of the Harry Potter series. I’ll write a non-spoiler review and put it on the “Review” page shortly. I’ve basically wrapped about 19 hours into this Saturday, Sunday and a little bit today…

I am kind of excited about going to ComiCon in San Diego with Connor, Alex and Matt unfortunately it looks like we might have waited too long to get tickets as the site indicates that the event is sold out. Going to have to have Debbie research.

That’s it, packing…

P.S. Salmon tartar is the devil…

Here is another image of the ehru player. As I had mentioned before, he preferred to remain anonymous, and so I shall not be quoting his name. Very soon he got used to the camera angles and knew how to “look up” to the lens.

well, i’m exhausted after the past two days, which have been pretty busy. but it’s been good. i had a wonderful weekend in san carlos, but now i’m back in the o.c. and returning to my regular life.

so yesterday, mom threw a family birthday party for me at the house. she had a lot of italian food (woot!) and invited the family over for lunch. of course, that also meant that she sent me to retrieve grandma from her house in the city before the party. at least i got to take the new car and enjoy listening to the satellite radio. also, grandma was really chatty on the way back to the house, so that was surprisingly fun. :) and it was great to see the family, even if my cousins brenda and jason weren’t able to make it. also, theresa is back from her tour through europe, so it was great to see her and hear about her adventures there. :)

in the evening, mel, kath, and i went out for a birthday dinner. :) we had amazing japanese food at ozuma (a san carlos institution). mmm… veggie tempura and the best ramen ever! and then we went over to bj’s for pizzookie for dessert. we only needed one to share. we ordered two. haha! it was a wonderful time! just look…

 ÂÂ

 ÂÂ

see? looks amazing, right? ;)

and then today! i had to get up at 5:15 to make my 7:30 flight out of san francisco so i could get to work this morning. turns out, however, that the flight was delayed because the crew’s flight last night got in late. yeah. so i was half an hour late and didn’t actually make it to work until 10:30, but that’s how it goes.

work was pretty uneventful today. i worked, though i was really tired, so i avoided some of the bigger projects. tomorrow will be better for those, i am thinking.

after work, i had a couple errands to take care of, and then i planned to get home early and crash early. one of the few things i wanted to pick up tonight was the sountrack to the movie “hairspray.” so looked for it at target (it was in their sunday ad, after all). sold out. so i looked for it at costco. sold out. so i looked for it at best buy. sold out. irvine best buy? sold out. borders? sold out. barnes and noble? you guessed it… sold out. seriously?!?!?!? i should have bought it when i was at best buy on saturday morning before i saw the film. so i told adam he must find one near him and bring it to me when he comes down on thursday. how are there no copies anywhere? the guy at b&n told me they sold them faster than “harry potter” books, which i’m sure was an exaggeration, but still! so anyway, i was out until about 7 looking and failing.

and since then, i’ve just been hanging out at home enjoying a little dinner and catching up on some tv. i am thinking i need to get to bed, however, so i’m off. g’night. ;)
